The stay

Stay 2 days/1 night from Saturday 14 p.m. to Sunday 12 p.m. This stay is an invitation to discover the fabulous cutlery history of Thiers and learn how to assemble your own knife! Full board.

Welcome to Thiers, a town built on a rocky outcrop facing the Puys chain.
When you walk through the medieval city, the narrow and winding streets lead you to encounter half-timbered houses, turrets and pretty shops.
But, what has made this city famous, beyond the French borders, is its fabulous cutlery know-how that you will discover through this stay.
Walk in the footsteps of the cutlers and visit the museum dedicated to them. It takes up the whole history of Thiernoise cutlery and offers demonstrations of assembly, old-fashioned grinding, polishing.
Did you take notes? It's up to you !
Go to a cutlery shop to learn how to make your own knife or a spreader for children.
If you still have a little time, make a stop at the Cité des Couteliers to see Thiernoise cutlery production in the 21st century.
The stay ends with the valley of spinning wheels where there are still the remains of the mills that were used to grind knives.

Don't leave Thiers without stopping off at the Vallée des Rouets.
An exceptional site which for several centuries concentrated two of the main cutlery activities: the grinding and polishing of blades. These operations took place in spinning wheels, or sharpening mills, operated by the hydraulic force of the Durolle.
Within Le Rouet, the work was divided between grinders on the ground floor and polishers upstairs.
A 4 km walk along the Durolle river to be done independently.
Picnic basket provided.
