Without the Durolle, cutlery would not exist. The river provided the energy needed to operate the spinning wheels, ancient mills for sharpening blades. Guided tour of the last spinning wheel in operation and route on 2 footpaths.
The footpaths along the Durolle take you to the old mills. In these workshops, called spinning wheels, the grinders used sandstone grinding wheels to shape the knife blades. In the last spinning wheel in working order "at Lyonnet", come and see the wheel turn, hear the belts snap and discover the working conditions of grinders.
