P’tit Jules au Moulin Richard de Bas

The mother of little Jules tells us about the papermaking workshop at the Richard de Bas mill.

“Holidays in Livradois-Forez are cool, and there are plenty of things to do, discover or rediscover. Especially in a mill.

With my little guy, we decided to cool down this time.

While enjoying an activity, what could be better than visiting the Richard de Bas mill in Ambert?

At the mill, freshness is guaranteed. Between the thickness of the walls and the presence of water, we discover the way of life of the last master papermaker who lived at the Richard de Bas mill.
As the visit progresses, we approach the den of the mill which contains the secrets of papermaking. The deafening sound of hammers is heard. It's impressive, but it intrigues us a lot too. We then meet the papermaker. We observe it religiously, because afterwards, it will be up to Jules to get to work.

Attentive, he listens to instructions. Then, he gets his hands dirty: the workshop begins. P'tit Jules stirs the paper paste in a tank, plunges a frame and raises a pretty layer of paste sprinkled with petals.

All that remains is to put the sheet of paper in the press. To do this, you have to be delicate and place it on the felt to then press it and thus evacuate the water.

At the end of the workshop, P'tit Jules is very happy: we leave with his sheet at home!

A beautiful day of discovery in the heart of the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park, I recommend this workshop »
