Que chacun mette la main à la pâte chez le potier

Arriving at Lezoux at Didier Marty's, I observe his studio filled with posters on the walls, pottery in all these forms placed on high shelves. Here, from the pitcher of water, to the animals, to the entrance bell, the potter is full of imagination. He thus shares it with the children who come for the workshops. It must be said that they are not lacking in imagination either.

A workshop for 4 children to discover manual work.

To make pottery there are two stages of firing. The first lasts 8 hours before the next stage which is enameling. The second firing lasts 7 hours at 1.300 degrees

"I would like to make a dolphin with two holes in its back so that it can spit water," says a little brunette, all smiles. Obviously, it's more of a whale than a dolphin, but anything is possible in pottery! For my part, I left on a horse or a unicorn… Well, with a few disorganized massages I then find myself with a turtle. That said, it's a very pretty turtle with a hat.

During this workshop I was with Léna, Inès, Loé and Nyla.

The basis is quite simple. Since we start from the earth, wet with water, to create a form. But it gets complicated once you have to make a similar shape. Pottery work is very meticulous work. It just depends on our two hands. I kneaded this ball of clay for a long time. And then it's a bit like drawing, you don't know where to start. Depending on the form I want to give to my pottery, it must be approached differently. I started from the principle that to make an animal shape I had to make a ball. On the contrary, I had to crush it so that it could then be used to surround a ball of newspaper.

For a question of space, the workshop is only done from 3 or 4 children.

A job that requires a lot of patience.

The workshops are organized by Didier and Roxane

The workshops are done with Didier and Roxane, who accompanies him.

I'm quite amazed at what I can produce given that the last time I made pottery I was less than ten years old. It took me a good 30 minutes of modeling for the shape of my turtle to be correct. To make a turtle, I didn't need any materials. But for example to make cup handles you can add water to the earth and stretch it with a roller.

My turtle finally looks more like a big cat than anything else.

It is a very playful potter's workshop for children. They can handle and throw the earth as they wish, nor can one make a mistake until the earth is cooked since it is malleable. And that is really the little extra of pottery. We immediately feel that we let ourselves go to the creation of a form since we know that there is always a way to catch up.

Realization in pottery of a bicycle

Some pottery creations are more complicated, like this bicycle which is particularly fine.
