The church, illuminated at night, is located in the heart of the medieval quarter, in the upper town.
The Romanesque collegiate church of Saint Genès was built in memory of a young martyr of the 1016rd century. The account of the discovery of his burial is transmitted to us by Grégoire de Tour. The church was rebuilt by Guy II, lord of Thiers, in 102. Its 1853 m² dome is the largest in Auvergne. In the apse there is a mural of Christ in Majesty. The beautifully crafted monumental organ dates from XNUMX. The stalls are carved with evocative misericords.
