10 a.m.: welcome to La Chaise-Dieu by a tour guide to discover the Gothic St Robert abbey church which contains exceptional treasures including the tomb of Pope Clement VI, the 144 carved oak stalls of the monks' choir, the mural fresco of the 15th century "la danse macabre", the flamboyant Gothic rood screen or the 17th century baroque organ case adorned with musical angels... Then guided tour of the cloister, the Chapel of Notre Dame du Collège housing the 14 Flemish tapestries of the 16th century stamped National Treasure and the echo room with amazing acoustics...
12 p.m.: lunch in a Casadean restaurant (menu of your choice including 1/4 of wine and coffee or herbal tea per person)
14 p.m.: departure towards Brioude with a stop at Lavaudieu, a small village classified as "the most beautiful villages in France" home to an old Benedictine abbey founded in the 11th century by Robert de Turlande for the nuns shortly after the founding of La Chaise-Dieu and of which he remains a very beautiful intact Romanesque cloister and an old refectory decorated with murals...
16 p.m.: guided tour of the Basilica of St Julien de Brioude, the largest Romanesque building in Auvergne and discovery of mural paintings from the 30th, 12th and 13th centuries, remarkable capitals, its pebble pavement and its contemporary stained glass windows by Kim En Joong .
18 p.m.: end of your day
