Sauxillanges Abbey was a great religious center. Here, Pierre the Venerable, from the illustrious Montboisier family from Livrad, was brought up in Sauxillanges before becoming the last grand abbot of Cluny. Today, the various buildings of this monastery are still found very well among the buildings of the city. There too, the old ramparts, used by dwellings, are still aligned above the river: the Eau-Mère. Indeed, on one of its banks, the Gauls built the residence of their leader.
