The site at the height of Puy Saint-Romain gradually reveals traces of several occupations dating from Protohistory.
Excavations carried out since 2021 have brought to light an important dry stone defensive structure along the plateau over nearly 1 m as well as archaeological furniture dating from the Final Neolithic, the Early and Late Bronze Age, and the 400st Iron Age. .
Archaeologists Florian Couderc, who directs the excavations, invite you to explore the puy alongside them to tell you about the high sites of Protohistory in Basse-Auvergne. Equip yourself with your walking shoes, a hat and don't forget to take your water bottle.
Go to the plateau at the top of the path (meeting point marked by a sign).
Access on foot is from the village of Saint-Maurice-ès-Allier (take rue du Saint-Romain, then take the path that goes up to access the puy).
