Visit remarkable Thiers
Morning: Visit to the Cutlery Museum in Thiers. Located in the heart of the upper town, the museum is a living illustration of the cutlery activity. The exhibition rooms and collections trace the history of the Thiers knife since its origin in the XNUMXth century, closely linked to the driving force of the Durolle and the hard and precise work of generations of grinders, fitters and polishers.
Breakfast in a local restaurant.
Afternoon (visit of your choice):
Guided tour of Thiers, medieval city. In each alley, the features and contours of its face are revealed: enigmatic houses of the man of the woods, the 7 deadly sins, the magnificent Hôtel du Pirou or even the dome of the Saint-Genès church. Its history follows that of men until they are lords,
stationers or cutlers.
OU
The history of cutlery could not be complete without visiting the Rouets valley located along the Durolle. During a short guided walk of around 3 km (duration 1 hour 30 minutes), follow in the footsteps of the grinders who, lying on a board above the river, gave the edge to the blade. Today, the site offers
the image of a wild nature marked by the patience and tenacity of generations
of cutlers. In the last working spinning wheel “at Lyonnet”, come and see the wheel turn, and discover the working conditions of the grinders (3 km).
